What are the technologies used during cricket matches? - know science

What is Hawk-Eye technology in Sports?
How the ball is tracked in Sports?

Cricket is the second most popular sport in Asia, Australia, and the United Kingdom.

You have to know these technologies used in cricket if you are a true cricket lover. With time these technologies are advanced. So let's talk about some amazing technologies used in cricket.

1. Hawk-Eye

Hawk eye, technology by which ball is traced

The system (Owned by Sony) is originally developed in the United Kingdom and widely used in sports as it accurate within 3.6 mm. It is used in many sports to track the ball and display a profile of its most likely path as a moving image. It works via many cameras (Usually six or more, positioned on the roof of the stadium) to track the ball from various angles.

2. Radar Gun or Speed Gun

Speed of ball is measured by Radar gun
Have ever wonder How the Speed of the ball is measured? The concept is quite similar to measuring the speed of vehicles. The system consists of two elements, Reciever and Transmitter. With the transmitter Radio wave is transmitted and is reflected by the ball which is received by the receiver. The system calculates the difference based on the principle of Doppler shift and gives the speed of the ball.

3. Slow-motion camera

These super slow-motion high resolutions cameras used for reviews or for making complicated decisions by Umpire.

4. Umpire Counters

Umpire counter

The device is used by Umpires. It is a simple device that gives ease to count balls, wickets, and overs to the umpire.

5. Hot Spot

UDRS, DRS, hot spot, infrared

Many time it will be difficult for the umpire that whether the ball hit the bat or not. In that case, two infrared cameras are used. When the ball hits the bat it generates a small amount of heat which is detected by these special cameras. The system is called Hot Spot.

6. Stump Camera

Stump camera

Stump cameras used in Cricket to get unique view. These camera usually embedded inside the stumps. The Stump cameras help in capturing the shots facing by the batsman.

7. Snick-o-Meter

Snick-o-meter

A Snickometer, commonly known as Snicko, is invented by Allan Plaskett an English Scientist in the mid 1990s. It is connected to an oscilloscope, which records sound waves. And it is also mounted on the stumps. It helps to determine whether ball hits the bat or stump.

Can Bacteria Help the plant to withstand Heat? - know science

Unfortunately, people think of bacteria in negative terms. And it is obvious as it has been supported by media and soap and detergent advertising firms. But scientists now focusing on how bacteria affect the biology of plants. Scientists found some specific type of bacteria that live on plants like dry areas. These types of bacteria encourage important crops to grow through high temperatures or drought. With the help of these bacteria, plants survive exposure to excessive heat and high salt levels. "These microorganisms could be greenest ways to help sustainable agriculture ", said Shekhawat. In a study they have conducted, they focused on SA187 , a microbe that lives in the roots of the plant called Indigofera argentea. The scientists planted wheat seeds coated with SA187 along with uncoated seeds. After six days, the crops were exposed to 44 degree Celsius heat for two hours. As the result, normal seeds stopped growing, and also damaged and coated seeds remained unaffecte...
