ISRO's Free Space Quantum Key Distribution Demonstration 


After Euro, the U.S., China, and Japan, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) have successfully demonstrated free-space Quantum Communication for the first time over a distance of 300 m. 


The experiment was performed at SAC(Space Applications Centre) at night to prevent direct interference of sunlight. The experiment is a breakthrough for India and ISRO too.

The experiment is a major breakthrough towards ISRO’s goal of demonstrating Satellite-Based Quantum Communication (SBQC), where ISRO is gearing up to demonstrate the technology between two Indian ground stations.

Quantum Key Distribution is a communication method. Sometimes known as Quantum cryptography. 

It was first proposed by Stephen Wiesner and Charles Bennett in the 1970s. It is more secure because it uses Physics, not math to encrypt data.

In QKD Transmission it is easy to detect any intrusion. If any third party tries to access the photon will change its state.
